Geometric Detroit Fordite Pendant
This Fordite is so pretty! The angled geometric shape looks fantastic in the contemporary sterling bezel. Deep reds, sparkly silvers, and charcoal grays all shimmer in concentric layers of color. When viewed in direct light, especially sunlight, the colors reveal their deep shimmer! The high-polished sterling silver bezel is hand-fabricated to perfectly fit the stone, with the back left open to reveal the great pattern of the back of the Fordite.
The pendant is suspended from a sturdy 18" oval cable chain. If you would like an extender or different length chain, just include a note at checkout.
What Is Fordite?
Fordite, also known as Detroit or Motor City Agate, is the by-product of automobile manufacturers from the now obsolete practice of hand spray-painting cars on the production line. Multiple layers of differently colored paint overspray would build up on the tracks, and eventually had to be removed when it started obstructing the tracks. Once it was removed, people noticed how aesthetically beautiful it was, and artists started begging for the material. Thus Fordite was born! People knowledgeable in classic cars can actually point to certain colors in Fordite and name the car and production year it came from. What a great way to own a piece of history!
