Unusual Detroit Fordite Sterling Silver Cuff Bracelet
An unusual piece of polished Fordite is perfect for this bold bracelet! The gorgeous cabochon displays bright yellow amongst the white layers, with shocks of silver, black, red, and even blue. The setting is all hand-fabricated out of solid sterling silver to perfectly fit the stone. This cuff will fit a medium ladies' wrist, and is slightly adjustable larger or smaller by gently bending the sides of the cuff to snug to the wrist.
The exact measurements of the bracelet are 2 1/2" x 2", with a 1" span.
What Is Fordite?
Also known as Detroit or Motor City Agate, Fordite is the by-product of automobile manufacturers from the now obsolete practice of hand spray-painting cars on the production line. Multiple layers of differently colored paint overspray would build up on the tracks, and eventually had to be removed when it started obstructing the tracks. Once it was removed, people noticed how aesthetically beautiful it was, and its ability to be cut and polished into sculptures and gemstones. Artists started begging for the material, and Fordite was born! People knowledgeable in classic cars can actually point to certain colors in Fordite and name the car and production year it came from. What a great way to own a piece of history!
